There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with GreenTown Los Altos, whether you just want to contribute to a single project, work with us for a few hours on a single day, or make a longer term commitment.  Here are some of our current volunteer openings.  To volunteer, email Maddy McBirney at volunteer@greentownlosaltos.org.

Drive Less Challenge

The Drive Less Challenge is a 2-week contest to inspire people to walk, bike and carpool instead of driving solo.  It starts on Earth Day, April 22.  Los Altos and Los Altos Hills participated as a community for the first time in 2011.  Ten other cities in the Bay Area also participated last year.

Drive Less Challenge Prize Team

Define the prize categories and judging criteria.  Identify appropriate prizes for each category.  You can build from the categories used last year.  We need a leader for this team and 1-2 team members.

Qualifications: Good organizational skills.  Some familiarity with Los Altos businesses is helpful.

Time Commitment: About 6-10 hours total

Duration: Feb 27 through March 25, 2012

Drive Less Challenge Community Outreach Coordinator

Manage a small team of 2-3 outreach volunteers who will be responsible for promoting participation in the Drive Less Challenge and the Bike! Walk! Win! party.  Coordinate with GreenTown’s marketing team and social media specialist to publicize these events.  Oversee the creation of our advertising and blog posts and the creation and distribution of flyers/posters.

Qualifications: Marketing, community outreach or project management experience, good communication skills

Time Commitment: About 20 hours total

Duration: early March through May 10, 2012

Drive Less Challenge Graphic Designer

Create print and online ads and a poster or flyer (TBD) promoting participation in the Drive Less Challenge and the Bike! Walk! Win! party.

Qualifications: Graphic design skills and tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign or similar)

Time Commitment: 8-16 hours total

Duration: March through mid-April 2012

Drive Less Challenge Writer

Develop blurbs for emails and newsletter.  Write sponsor thank-you letters and coordinate mailing with GreenTown admin.  Update one-pager describing Drive Less Challenge and sponsor benefits for use by the Prize Team in soliciting sponsor prizes.  Write blog posts.

Qualifications: Good English writing skills.  Experience writing promotional copy or promotional emails is helpful.

Time Commitment: About 2-3 hours per week

Duration: March through mid-May, 2012 (or split the time with another writer)

Bike! Walk! Win! Party Planners

Plan and execute our evening party to take place on Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 10, 2012.  This party recognizes the Drive Less Challenge winners and awards prizes.  We also celebrate those who biked to work that day.  Party should take place in a public venue.  Total of 2-3 volunteers needed

Qualifications: Fun-loving, party planning experience.

Time Commitment: About 8-12 hours total across all volunteers.

Duration: mid-April to May 10, 2012

Flyer Distribution

Distribute flyers (and remove them after May 10).  Total of 2-6 people needed.

Qualifications: Friendly, able to get around on foot.  Some familiarity with businesses in town is helpful.

Time Commitment: About 2 hours per volunteer

Timeframe: first week of April 2012 and third week of May 2012
